Debit cards in business
Casual is the norm nowadays in almost everything. The question is: can casual and business stack up to a profitable business? One test of this is the debit card. The debit card is a favorite to millions of checking account holders. This casual little piece of plastic simplifies life and thus reduces stress. My question is: does it reduce stress in business?
Using structure to take care of your money is a time-tested way to make sure that payroll goes off without a hitch and late fees are avoided. Here are a few snags that the debit card can create when attempting to create a system for your money management:
- Using a debit card casually as the days tick by creates a casualness that becomes into a pile of questions when it comes to pulling together a profit and loss for your venture.
- Using a debit card casually as the fun of running a business happens inks a bright red number on your budget to actual report--the core of a profitable business.
While I cannot discount the time savings of a debit card, nor can I depreciate the simplicity of it, using it for business can wreak havoc on cash flow and budgets. And while that may not single-handedly ruin a business, chances are that the casual use of debit card could drain the cash right out of a business thus lowering its chance of survival.

Attached checking account
Why Rochelle! I'm so glad you asked! TOTALLY agree with you on all counts...and as a busy, biz owner who is forgetful and often sleepless - I know what you are saying... However, I am keenly interested in this topic and think I may have just found a way around all that...? Curious what you and others think about this idea...
I just opened an "attached" checking account that has a debit card - but no checks to avoid confusion - for the sole purpose of using as a credit card for purchase of online items like air fare, and other necessary biz credit card uses...it is seperate from my checking, I put money into the account on an as needed basis, I have a itemized list of purchases via the statements - and ONLY use it for things I have to, in lieu of credit cards...cuz I HATE, HATE, HATE credit card companies!! Did I say that too loud? :) This way I avoid any possibility of late payments, interests, extra fees, etc... (did I mention I am forgetful?!)
Whadda ya think??

Good solution to debit card use
Thanks Kelly. I will definitely be exploring what banks offer this type of checking account. So many of our clients could benefit from this type of account. -Rochelle
Big fan of debit cards
I am a huge fan of the debit card because of all benefits. When I use my debit card to make purchases, I know I have to have the cash to pay for it and I do not go into debt. Also, it is a benefit to the business that I use my debit card because they do not have to pay excessive processing fees on my purchases. If I use a regular credit card, the merchant incurs all of the costs for the rewards, points, etc that I receive which means the merchant loses in a way. Credit Card companies are sneaky in this way that they do business, in my opinion. Any questions about credit cards, don't hesitate to e-mail me at susann.usbc@yahoo.com. I give out free information on this questionable industry.
Thanks for the survey!
